Hey. It’s me. Ya girl. With another Meta. I worked an all nighter just now so forgive me if this comes across incoherent but today I want to discuss:
Bakugo’s “Deal” with Deku.
The most insight we got into this was 284.
Okay. So Deku’s selflessness scared him particularly with the log incident when they were fucking 5 but like…there is something SO MUCH DEEPER going on. I feel like we are barely scratching the surface of everything that happened between them as kids. I feel like maybe with recent events in the manga, Hori will shed EVEN MORE LIGHT into why Bakugo… uh…is so triggered by Deku. A lot of people don’t have this as a frame of reference but America I explain. The Light Novels are in fact Canon. Yet a lot of even die manga readers do not dive into them. But lemme tell you, they are worth the purchase because you get this fantastic thing called insight. So, context here, in School Briefs Vol. 2, Bakugo and Kirishima go to a cafe so Bakugo can tutor Kirishima and while there they run into Bakugo’s old middle school posse and Kirishima’s like 👀 and Bakugo’s like 🙄 and they all get to chatting then while Bakugo gets up for what is possibly the longest soda refill ever, Kirishima does at least some math and is like “well if y’all were friends with Bakugo, you must have known Midoriya too! 🤗” and then they’re like “Oh yeah we used to beat the shit out of him and now we feel bad. Boohoo us.” And Kirishima, the sweetheart he is, is like “well I’m sure he’ll forgive you” and then they get excited about him at sports festival. It’s all very cute but it does NOT end well.
It’s all very dramatic. And honestly very sad to read. Earlier in the chapter, his friends were noticing how much he was changing for the better but then with Deku, he becomes an entirely different person. The person who the media makes him out to be. Now this all happens before their final exam. Which again, we get observations about Bakugo is amazing. Super powerful and strong and highly intelligent but when it comes to Deku, he just falls apart.
His faces during this exam for having to work with Deku are filled with…so much pain.
Like, he really overcame a mountain with this one. And obviously the ol traumalog incident was huge in the rift between them but I am still convinced there is far more to their story. Cause Deku sees Katsuki like the stars come out of his eyes and at the beginning Bakugo has so much contempt for him. There are so many mixed feelings welling inside that boy. I’m glad he can come to peace with how he treated him and how he wishes to treat him from now on but I think we are about to go even deeper in their relationship now whether they get separated or reunited.
